"You have two new cases lined up for the week ma'am" Ahana heard her assistant, Devrat tell her as she held her head in between her hands, her head blasting with pain.
"When are the dates?" She asked opening the side table, popping a pill for headache." Also ma'am, your father asked you to reach to Rudra Rajvansh's coronation ceremony today evening.
"I asked you the dates Devrat." Ahana said as she looked at Devrat irritated already. It was just the start of the day and her mood had already been ruined as she had a tiff with her grandfather early morning related to the new case he wanted to give her.
"Ma'am you have the Rajvansh's case lined up on 18th August and that of Singhania on 20th. But you have to assist Mr. Sooraj Khurana on one of his cases on 19th as well. Your father asked me to add that on your schedule list." Devrat said as his voice fumbled a bit in the end. He knew that Ahana would be angry on this. She did not have to assist anybody. She was already very good with her practice and she practiced independently ever since she started coming to the court.
However that could not change the fact that she still worked under The Khurana law firm and that belonged to her grandfather and she had to agree to all the cases that were given to her. She had a fight with her grandfather about another case in the morning as well. The Rajvansh's case of complicated and Ahana had an absolutely amazing track record. She had not even lost a single case ever since she started fighting in the court. Taking that up would mean taking a huge bet on her record and she could not afford it. Not now, not ever.
Ahana was not afraid. Just smart. The case could be assigned to anyone yet her grandfather decided to give it to her. She was not even a senior lawyer. She did become suspicious when such a high profile case was handled to her without any fight and she went through all the documents related to the case.
It was complicated. The case was filed by Mrs Arika Shekhawat, a member of the royal family, the queen herself, staking claim on her mother's property which was illegally usurped by her father and stepmother, who was in turn trying to transfer it on name of her stepsister. Though it was clearly signed on name of her heir, Mrs. Meera's heir, but since her husband had remarried and had a stake in the business as well, transferring everything on Arika's name would be very difficult. Either this case could mean that Ahana's career would touch the skies or hit the absolute rock bottom and nobody would be able to stop that.
And the fact that two royal families were involved in it meant that people would be interfering in her work, something that she hated. The media was involved. Everybody was dying to know what she would do about this case and if Arika would be able to get hold of her property or not. She hated explaining someone what she was doing and why was she doing the same but since the royal family was involved in his, all her moves would be double checked.
On top of that, she was being forced to attend the will to be king's coronation ceremony, something she thought was an absolute waste of her time. She was their lawyer... not a close associate... not an indulgent fan.. just a lawyer. Even though she had the Khurana name involved along with her , she did not think that it was important enough for her to still go and personally attend the king's coronation ceremony. Why is this still allowed in the 21st century?? She either ways was not a fan of meeting a lot of people, something which was completely opposite to the personality she portrayed at her work.
"I will have to talk to Mr. Khurana about it." Ahana said as she took her phone and dialled a number till the other side answered.
"What?" came a sharp and shrewd reply from the other side.
"Why am I asked to attend this king's royal ceremonies?"Ahana answered gritting her teeth with force.
"Because you are the part of their legal consultation team. And Mr. Samar Rajvansh himself wanted the new lawyer to be present while the will to be king is being cornorated. Do make sure that you personally go and greet him when you reach there. Do not do anything to disappoint me." Came in the reply and she heard the line get cut.
Ahana sighed looking at the blank screen. One more mask. One more night. One more drama.
"Arrange an outfit for me Devrat. Make sure it is upto the mark. I need to make a good impression." Ahana said as she sighed reading the file of the Rajvansh's case. One mistake and she could ruin all that she had created. Either ways, her competitors were looking for ways to replace her. She could not give them any chance to do it. Not now, not ever.
Devrat nodded at her and left the room. She took her own sweet time studying the facts of the case.
The Khurana's had been the only law firm assisting the Royal's since the last 50 years. Her grandfather was not only the legal advisor of the previous king, but was also one of the people who the king trusted the most.
"How can a man who cheated his own wife multiple times be trusted. How could the royal's be such a fool?"Ahana often thought that however, this was for her profit and Ahana Khurana would never leave a chance to be profitable.
She looked at her watch.
"I think I need to go". She got off her chair and shifted out of the room mentally preparing herself for the night.
Truth be told. She was actually excited to see the royal palace. Despite of her father and brother going and travelling there diligently, she herself had never gotten the opportunity to go there, partly because she had just returned from USA an year back and had immediately gotten hold of work ever since. She did not even have the time to travel, something she loved doing. However, this was much more important right now. She would even get a chance to personally meet her client, Mrs. Arika Shekhawat.
"Damn... Rajvansh... Shekhawat... what are these Rajput surnames made up of. Sounds like someone going to the war. We punjabis are still better."
